Match report by Richard Church.
This match and the previous one away to Aylesbury are not so much about the results but more to do with the application and determination of a bunch of young lads, mostly local and who have come through the AFC youth system, giving their all.
Two weeks ago we got the news that the previous management team were stepping down just three days before the scheduled game at Aylesbury. Not just that, but all the players bar one were going as well! Following a gargantuan effort from a whole host of wonderful people, we managed to get a new management team in place and a squad of players together to fulfil the fixture – all bar one of them teenagers who had no experience of playing at this level (with the exception of Euan Warlow) and boy have they all done us proud.
So back to this match report. We actually managed to get the ball in the net early in the game but unfortunately for us, it was quite rightly flagged offside. What a difference that could have made to take the lead. The visitors slowly bur surely began to exert their experience and know how on the match and by half time they were three goals to the good but the young OD players never let their heads drop and produced some superb moments against a very good side who are pushing for a play off place. To be fair, Jack Brady in our goal pulled off some magnificent saves to keep the scoreline at three.
Thame added another couple of goals within the first 20 minutes of the second half but on 73 minutes came the moment that all those of an AFC Dunstable disposition were all hoping and praying would arrive. AFC number nine Shea Greene burst forward with the ball and as the keeper rushed out Shea put it between his legs and it rolled in to the back of the net – the moment superbly caught on camera by James Smith – definitely a moment to remember for young Shea and the rest of the team! A huge cheer and celebration from a decent crowd at Creasey Park.
Onwards and Upwards.
Man of the match as voted by the AFC committee was keeper Jack Brady.
